Kristen Hammond

Senior Director, Academic Services

Kristen leads an award-winning learning design team that works collaboratively with university partners and academics to design and build quality, engaging, workforce-relevant courses. Students are at the centre of everything her team does.

Kristen has worked in publishing and education for almost three decades, producing books and online course materials for primary, secondary, and higher education markets, as well as for lifelong learners—including Australia’s bestselling personal finance book, The Barefoot Investor. Over her career, she has worked across publishing, editorial, production, marketing, corporate sales, and product management—but loves co-creation with collaborators best of all.

Kristen holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing from RMIT. She loves storytelling in all its forms—books, film, and conversations—and enjoys riding her e-bike along regional rail trails with her husband Aaron, and their two girls. Kristen has also volunteered for Lord Somers Camp and Power House for more than three decades, running experiential, camping-based programs focused on youth and community development, with a strong emphasis on inclusion, empowerment, and leadership growth.

What traits do you admire in a leader?

I admire leaders who bring collaboration, transparency, and a sense of fun to their work. Readiness, openness, honesty, and generosity matter deeply – as does the ability to hold a clear vision, communicate it with purpose, and inspire others to rally behind it.

What are your core values?

My values are grounded in rolling up your sleeves and getting involved, showing up with generosity and kindness, and letting the heart lead. I believe leadership is a form of service—and that true success is shared. When we all succeed, I know I’ve done my job well.

What is your Risepoint moment?

Seeing my children take their first steps into tertiary study was a powerful Risepoint moment for me. Watching them grow, face challenges, and ultimately feel inspired by their futures brought home—on a deeply personal level—just how transformative education can be. It reinforced my belief that access to meaningful, life-changing learning should be available to anyone ready to take that step.
